Adam Carolla does make a good point. It does not look like that van even tapped on the brakes. Its one thing to run into standstill traffic, but not being able to see a semi truck doing a u-turn ahead of you in clear weather? Look at how much time there was in between the truck starting the u-turn, and the collision. Its not that there was a collision, but the van never tried to slow down or swerve out of the way. I understand maybe he couldnt avoid it, but wouldnt you at least try?

Have they released any information on the driver or passenger? We're they all on their phone, never once looking up from the moment the truck started the turn, up to the impact? Thats crazy if true, and if it wasnt the truck, it would eventually be the last person in standstill traffic. We're they all on their phone without once looking up in a span of 10 or 15 seconds?

The minivan was ~100 feet behind the truck as can be seen at 1 second in the video (truck went from in its lane to sideways across the whole highway in approx 1 second)
Under perfect conditions a typical suv/minivan can stop from 75mph to 0 in ~450 feet. It wasn't perfect conditions, it was raining. Even if it was perfect conditions, the driver reacted immediately but still would've needed ~350 more feet to stop in time.

ABS stand for antilock brake system. It prevents the breaks from locking up skidding or smoking, because when your tires are skidding and smoking you loose control of the vehicle and loose braking authority.
So yes it is a magical system that prevents tire skid and smoking, the magic is a computer and hall effect sensors on each wheel. If you ever drive any car newer than the 90s and heard a growling sound when breaking hard that is the ABS in action.
The truck and trailer each have their own system, and a license trucker knows to check the system before each trip.
This is all basic knowledge that is required for CDL and is covered in every drivers license book.

ABS actually does work that way. Under hard conditions you can hear it feathering break pressure, it is a growling sound from the valve on the firewall by the steering column. 1. The semi was on the right side of the road (seemingly a hazard to NO ONE) and then he starts to move across the free.

2. Cars on the freeway don't slam on their brakes every time they see a car move. Slamming on the brakes is a very rare occasion that only happens *after* you have analyzed the situation and determined that slamming on the brakes os the safest maneuver (even though the car behind you could slam into you at high speed)

3. From the time the Indian driver started moving there was very little time to analyze the situation, and certainly by the time the car driver realized the danger there wasn't enough *distance* to stop.

Placing blame on the van driver just shows how little these people understand the basic physics of driving. There is a reason the move the truck driver made is illegal. It reminds me of how spics make homes that collapse. It would be like blaming the home owner for wood rot behind a 2nd story window after some spic failed to caulk things properly.

Could the van have avoided the crash? Maybe. Probably, actually. I drive like a paranoid spaz, ready to break any minute, examining my rear and my front, and planning off road maneuvers to avoid BS like this truck. But not everyone is going to drive like that. Because it's just basic driving. There's retards on the road constantly, you should be constantly prepared for the worst to come. If a driver is in the road sideways a mile a way and you still crash into it than your just a retard. I'm not saying this car had that amount of time but still there's certain factors that are, what they are.
