Forgiveness can happen, but justice must still be doled out. Illegals have no rights, as they are not citizens. I believe they should be punished harder than citizens, as they were already criminals by virtue of entering the country illegally. So if a citizen would get 45 years, I would bypass life in prison and instead opt for execution to forever disincentivize future illegal entry into the country.

When you kill someone because of your neglect, rather than malice, the legal term is manslaughter. Manslaughter is a serious crime in the United States, and a paltry fine of $500 will not even cover the cost of disposing of the bodies.

I recently had my father die this summer. The cremation cost was around $1300. Beyond this, I had to spend a couple months cleaning out his storage unit, paying both for the cost of keeping the storage unit and handling several dump runs to get rid of anything that couldn't be sold or given away to family members who wanted it. Although we were inevitably able to handle these costs through the sale of his old tools, books, and some of his lumber, these costs are still substantial, and not everyone has the time or funds to handle the affairs of a death in the family. $500 is a slap in the face.

Make no mistake, this death may be an accident, but it was a preventable accident. This is not an act of God, but an act of a man's negligence. Had he simply obeyed the rules of the road and used the nearest exit to turn around, there would be no deaths. In choosing to make an illegal U turn, he demonstrated gross disregard to the sanctity of human life, to satisfy his greedy desire to shave a couple minutes off of his travel time. That is why he deserves DECADES in prison.
