I both hate and love that. I like that there's a lot of material to delve into and watch. Especially if the ending is good, I'm definitely rewatching it all. But I hate that it's been 20+ years to finish this fucking thing. Combine that with the filler and breaks he takes, it's torture. He got Toriyama'd and probably isn't allowed (or doesn't know how to) "softly" end the series while leaving it open ended like the Cell saga did in DBZ, so they could continue printing money. If he just did one arc where they finished it but left it open so that the Straw Hats still had "something" left to do that's all I need. But he will never finish it as long as it makes money. Jump creators don't have contracts, they retain full rights to their comics outside of some fringe exceptions or obviously collaborative efforts. This is the case with most manga magazines as opposed to Capeshit where the company owns the ip. Licensing for adaptations is of course a different story.

Regardless of any of that, Oda would openly admit to loving the benefit of wealth that the success of One Piece provided him but the truth is he would still be drawing something even if One Piece didn't have such success.
