I'm about 12 days away from reaching 1000 days.
This is what I dislike about Duolingo. The rewards could be better for reaching milestones, free gems, and a few free days of super access are nice and all but it doesn't feel like a huge bonus or to encourage you to keep learning. I would like it if some sort of messaging service was installed too so you could actually practice with people who are learning languages .

Best way to learn at home IMO if it's the same alphabet is to get a children's book or something easy to digest, translate it and keep reading it over and over again with the translation next to you until you can understand most of it by yourself.

I can effort-post on this shit about my journey on how it went down to abyss from when I started 3 years ago to today. The change was very rapid, like the most instakike possible. tldr.
>fully AI, even new subscription tier for it (classic MBA graduate idiots)
>paywalled free features to it's new subscription tier. From removal of discussions, to paywalled achievements (mistakes & legendaries).
>severe punishment for free users: 2-3 ads per lesson, heart to energy (from infinite try as long as you do no mistakes to limited questions answered
>already subscribed to Super, still get ads nagging you to upgrade to it's AI tier.
>contents getting bigger & longer (with AI slop) = longer time to finish (might as well as forever), Obvious trick by company to keep users trapped as long as possible.
>etc. There are more horrors on this.

The most dreaded fact: most users are brainrotted tiktok zoomers that can only use phones, and jewlingo has very good shock value marketing. None of them even use PC.

At this point I only keep using it till end of this year due to sunk cost fallacy, but I found an excellent way to use it that (((corpos))) seethe:
on PC; Firefox + ublock + cheating script = Zero ads, free unlimited hearts, free unlimited 3-day subscription. Once per month, activate the free subscription to complete gold legendary units in the fastest, automated way. Also go private profile: the league is part of cancer of gamification

The Japanese one is still fine (dogshit grammar, but decent way to build up vocabularies, kanji also teaches handwriting), for now.
It's the big language like English (i don't use this), French, Spanish that get infested with incoherent AI.

Just download an Anki card pack and cram vocab, then do a bit of grammar on the side from some other website or youtube video. When you feel like you have enough (at least the most common 1000-2000 words) try to consume books, tv shows, or movies. At first you'll only recognize a few words in sentences, maybe the gist of what they're saying. Take the words you don't know, look them up, and add them to Anki. Keep doing it until you recognize 99% of what you're hearing/reading and congratulations, you learned a language without dealing with the jew.

They have made this app so bad I stopped paying for my family. I get .pdf textbooks, language workbooks from barnes & noble because your brain actually needs to write the language using fine motor mechanics if you want to learn the script (i.e. russian cursive), buy the 555 verbs big yellow book, and then have passive exposure to shows, movies, children's content on youtube, radio, and state news channels.
If you're listening 4-6 hours a day you will quickly assimilate grammar concepts from your workbook.

LanguagePod on YouTube is pretty good. Each language has its own dedicated channel and each one has a 30ish minute video that goes over very useful basic phrases and idioms. I legit learned more from watching one YouTube video over and over than I ever did with Duolingo.

There is another channel called "Ayan Academy" which reads along to old language learning books. The anon that said you need to practice reading the language is spot on.

Duolingo is a good start for people who cant find places on a map. Gets you some starter vocab but thats about it.
Anonymous (ID: TRxsNvzA) Canada No.514053398
If you actually complete a Duolingo course, you will understand the language pretty well.

You can download the Pimsleur language packs off the internet and that paired with Duolingo will have you reading and speaking pretty well. If you pair those with a textbook or any book you will be good.
