It's not that society has become more racist.
It's that the left has framed more things as racist, including many things that at one point had nothing to do with race, and then acts as though preferring the original status quo is equivalent to being a robe-wearing member of the KKK.

The whole Austin Metcalf/Karmelo Anthony thing is the straw that broke the camel's back for a lot of normies. I noticed a lot of people on social media stopped walking on eggshells after that and are more open about having black fatigue and are no longer willing to tolerate their bad behavior. Muslims have been a cancer on human civilization for 1500 years, so anyone with a brain was already against them.

Exactly, people are tired of being called out as racist when they're really not, for a bunch of bullshit that leftists have decided is racist.
(I prefer calling them leftists instead of liberals. They're socialist. Socialism is as anti-liberal as it gets, as one of the core values of traditional liberalism is that private property is both a moral and economic good and really, if anything, we need more *real* liberalism and not less)

BLM and the SJWs didn't "go too far". Everything they stood for was wrong; morally, logically and factually. Everyone knew all along, but social and sometimes legal barriers discouraged us from saying it. What's different now? People are starting to not give a fuck.
