I'm not part of the defund police crowd. Obviously a large urbanized society needs some kind of force to respond to credible threats of violence. But I shouldn't have to risk being accosted every time I drive to work by some 89 IQ sociopath who grew up watching cop action movies and was drawn to the line of work specifically because he views it as a combat role and has been formally trained to view every American citizen as a potential enemy combatant. I shouldn't have to put up with people like that laying in wait like predatory animals and staring at me constantly and following me while brainstorming any flimsy pretext to pull me over and escalate everything for no reason. It's hard to even imagine a situation more un-American than that.

Traffic patrol should be handled by a completely separate unarmed force that has no authority to do anything other than issue tickets. Maybe the fire department could be expanded to handle this work. Police should stay in their stations out of public view and should only respond to reports of violent offenses. They shouldn't be just running amok everywhere. I literally feel like I'm under enemy occupation every time I go outside and see cops and immediately have a severe flight or flight response. I shouldn't have to feel like that in my own fucking country.

When I was younger, I believed the same as you. But now I'm much older and drive a van full of my family. I understand the "travel unmolested" but that argument is used without care for others. You driving 90 in a 30mph zone puts my family in danger while we travel. In other words, you are molesting me. People think that speed limits are just places without reason. they seriously test the G-force and other shit on roads when determining the speed limit. Places like Hawaii take into account their scenery. That's why their speed limit is like 35 on straight roads because idiots are looking around and not paying attention because it's absolutely beautiful. You should be able to travel without issues but you need to travel safely not just for your sake but for mine as well. Traffic code is designed to be the middle ground to keep everyone alive. If you spend just a day watching police pursuit videos (I recommend Arkansas or Georgia), you will see that the people committing traffic violations while also breaking the law will run, so it's a great way to bust felons. I've got no criminal history, literally worked at a high school for much of my career and grew up in a christian boyscout-like group.

I decided I actually understand the 2A (and the underlying right to self defense) and started conceal carrying without asking for permission to do so. Cops were called by a pastor of a church because he didn't want to ask me to leave after we had a discussion about Scripture where we agreed to disagree.

The 911 call he made was clear that I had committed no crimes, only that he didn't want to be the one to ask me to leave since I was "intense" and "wouldn't change my mind".

Cops march up to me, demand ID (4a violation), rub my info, discover the gun and no corresponding state permit and arrest me for disorderly conduct and conceal carry without a permit.

The DA didn't charge on disorderly and even agreed there was nothing disorderly in my conduct after reviewing the evidence. But they're pressing forward on the gun charge. I have explained to all the arresting cops, the DA, the judge that the 2A is very clear, all gun laws are unconstitutional... Yet they persist. In fact, the DA is even persisting despite knowing a 4A violation occurred. The whole thing is retarded, no one can be this dumb, there's no way all these people just honestly " misunderstood " the 4A and 2A, they have to be honestly trying to make an example of me. This is a very blue capital city in a very red state and the legal system here HATES guns, despite open carry being legal.

These cops, the DA and the Judge must all be troglodytes incapable of actually doing their stated jobs and should all be removed or they know the truth and just don't like it, in which case...they should all be removed and prosecuted.

If I'm being honest with myself, I do feel like I failed in a way that day. I did stand up for my rights by observing them, but I didn't DEFEND them. I allowed myself to be disarmed without a struggle.

The police asked me to step outside, after taking my ID after my protesting, but them claiming they had "lawful authority to demand it" since they were "investigating a disturbance" (again, the 911 call never suggested a disturbance). So we're standing outside and they're obviously running my info in one of the squad cars while I'm surrounded, but having a conversation (at this point, I hadn't asked about detainment, but taking my ID suggests it).

They ask me again for my conceal carry license, with 4 cops at my 2, 5, 7 and 11 o'clock. I keep my mouth shut and notice they're getting a closer, so I try to step back and say, "I don't feel comfortable" (my hands were behind my back at an at ease position)... And that's when they grab me. I had a cop on each arm and two in front of me, no winning that fight, but they start yelling at me to stop resisting (I wasn't, my hands were still clasped together from my at ease stance).

I think to myself, I think had I truly been standing on my right to self defense then I should have died that day in an all out effort to defend myself from a tyrannical government trying to disarm me...though physically, I didn't have that option because I was suckered into their trap before. I feel betrayed by the police who swore an oath and I also feel like I failed myself, maybe that's wrong on some level, but it's how I feel. The whole situation is a giant hairball, feels like war where once the fighting starts it's impossible to tell who's winning, who's in the right and who's in the wrong. I'm unsure how justice even gets served out in this situation seeing that those entrusted to do so have shown their bias, I think it really comes down to the people's decision, a jury...of my blue haired peers.

You are on the right track, but not going far enough: there are a LOT of things that the police current have to do that honestly should be broken up into their own organizations. You don't need an army officer to show up to a noise complaint at 2am, or all but the most severe of domestic abuse or mental health episodes. If you don't stop for them, your ticket penalty is increased dramatically and mailed to your house, obtained from your license plate.
