The ethos of politicians in the Republican party for the last decade has been "Whatever Trump says". There was some dissent at first, but those voices were either quickly snuffed out or forced to bend the knee.
The problem is Trump's political capital starts draining after midterms, and after 2028 Trump will no longer be a factor in politics. And after ten years of being the party of "Whatever Trump says", Republicans have lost all other identity.
