My guess is early on there is a lot of revolutionary zeal and desire to try all sorts of new things but this dissipates after a bit and you have to focus on just running society and that type of thing.

The only reason they rose to power is, paradoxiacally because they were useful to Ohranka and Tsarist system, as Lenin refused to work with SR and Anarchists. Sos Ohranka gave some of their own money funding bolsheviks which then later came to bute them - but then again, if SR won instead, things would be even worse for the tsarists as with bolsheviks at least a sizable portion of officers were rehabilitated.

I think many of those early revolutionaries became disillusioned with the system as time went on. A lot of Marxist predictions simply didn't pan out. World revolution didn't happen. Capitalism didn't collapse; In fact it became stronger. Classless, stateless society didn't work out as the period of war communism resulted in the country almost breaking apart. Lenin even reintroduced capitalism in the form of NEP, although under state control this time around. The revolution came and went and what was left was a country full of the same old issues, like inequality and exploitation. No wonder another Napoleon rose up, exactly like it happened a hundred years earlier. The French Revolution initially had a lot of crazy ideas too after all.
