It’s a microcosm of a larger trend of every company conforming to the soulless globohomo’d minimalist/utilitarian aesthetic. The warm and inviting atmosphere is being stripped away in favor of cold, faux-futuristic design that exists to get customers served and turned over as quickly as possible to drive more sales. The more intangible, experiential appeal of places is being erased as the world gets more brown because those types of “people” can’t comprehend those more abstract concepts.
