It's a PSYOP. There's no reason to assume anything other than solipsism. This means the others are no more real than characters in a dream. It's still hard to consistantly not care, though, because of the PSYOP that is "nature" and "instincts", which are constraints imposed on the observing consciousness. Even after you figure out it's fake, the observer keeps trying to re-immerse in the cake narratives.
