Why does America have such a low rate of motorcycle/moped usage compared to other nations? Wouldn't it make more sense for Americans to turn toward more affordable options like small motorcycles as cars become overpriced? And yet, we don't really see this happening.

Honestly it doesn't make sense to ride a motorcycle here. Mopeds are 100% for cucks though.

Here's a better question - why do they let people drive on the road with those golf carts on steroids they have these days?

I got a motorcycle. They aren’t really a replacement for a car. They’re a toy. It’s hard to transport stuff, or people, sucks when bad weather, etc.

Also people drive like retards.

Most motorcycle fatalities are due to operator error/intoxication, failure to wear safety gear, operating in poor weather, etc. Which means that your safety on the road is still largely in your own hands as you ride. Being a responsible operator will protect you in most cases.

Give it a decade or two, after all the new spics and jeets start coming of age to drive.

also, most countries where people ride two tire vehicles a lot are mostly tropical. But in most of America, you wouldn't want to ride that motorcycle for at least half of the year because of ice on the road. Not a big deal in a car if one single tire slips, but you're fucked if that happens on a bike

Pretty much this. It's a hobby that's dying out as each successive generation loses more interest in anything physical or outside. Every year it gets more dangerous as people drive angrier and more distracted.

I wonder what the white obesity rate is though. In the US at least, blacks and hispanics have significantly higher rates of obesity than white people. There are still way too many white fatties but I wonder how much of the national statistics are non-white fat fucks

Seriously scary to drive a motorcycle in North America, everyone looking at their cellphones while barely steering a 7-foot-tall SUV with 180-degrees of blindspots. Every single red light you have to be hyper away of someone crashing right into you because they can't see anything they or their auto-braking-system aren't pre-programmed for.

So much nicer to drive unironically in developing countries where people are aware of their surroundings, are looking for signals from other drivers, etc. I feel far safer in Delhi rush house than 1pm in Wichita or whatever since in the former people are awake and aware in the latter they're on faulty autopilot.

I already own 2 cars and would like to get a cheap used bike for weekend rides. I’ve never ridden a proper motorcycle, but I used to race BMX and I’ve ridden dirt bikes before. I know how to drive a stick and know motorcycle clutches are way easier. any suggestions for a good beginner bike? maybe something underpowered, I don’t want to be tempted to yeet myself

If you want to go on the highway you need 200cc min. If you don't want to suicide yourself don't get anything over 650cc. There's a recent renaissance of sweet spot-spot 300-400cc bikes but that wasn't much the case 10-20 years ago when you really needed to choose between the 250 and 650 class mostly.

>Why does America have such a low rate of motorcycle/moped usage compared to other nations?
Per capita? Because there are millions of motorcycles in America. They're just not used as much for primary transportation due to the long distances and high speeds needed for most transportation requirements in the US

The northern part of the US is winter 8 months of the year and the southern part is hot enough that people die without ac. Motorcycles are nice to have when it's seasonable but it's not practical as a primary vehicle.

Any mid sized twin. Yamaha mt-07 or something like it. Underpowered isn't what you want to learn on, just not overpowered.
Anonymous (ID: G1sNX8R9) United States No.514070095
It’s because those other nations have a much higher population density overall. There’s a sweet spot of population density which makes motorcycles convenient and anything below or above that sweet spot makes them a pain in the ass. Weather also plays a factor. A motorcycle isn’t exactly a convenient daily in Pittsburgh or Buffalo.

In California I can't understand why anyone drives anything but a motorcycle. Perfect weather all year. Totally legally lane-splitting. Cagies stuck in gridlock while motorcyclists zoom past / around them in a daily occurrence but they never learn.

Based knower. There's only one situation on a bike that has a disproportionate risk associated for non drunk non adrenalin junkies, and that's getting left turned on while approaching an intersection and that can be mitigated if you bother to pay attention.
>>514069462
Buy anything cheap, sub 1000cc if it's an i4, no displacement limit if a twin, and more than 15 years old. Pavement riding's a little different from dirt and you'll get yourself in trouble if you get too big for your britches and think that your seat time on dirtbikes transfers 100%. Really spend a few rides taking it easy and getting a feel for countersteering and how much bar force it requires to achieve a given turn angle so if something spooks you you don't panic and run wide into a guard rail or curb. Remember, for 99% of riders a bike is physically capable for a lean angle/turning radius at a given speed double that of the point where the rider will panic and lay it down.

traditionally its because of Winter. Our most (traditionally) populated states are disastrously cold 6 months out of the year and roads are icy, snowy and unsafe. This created a culture where motorcycles are for summer fun, not basic bitch transportation.

Now that 1/4 of the country lives in regions where its decent motorcycle weather year round (Florida, Texas, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Louisiana) the mentality ersists - bikes for fun, cars for serious transport.
