I think the problem with bpd and similar, is that they are very poorly defined. It's like 5 out of 9 symptoms or whatever. They often overlap with each other and the labels are more confusing than helpful. Instead of just listing individual symptoms and working on them.

I have experiences with multiple girls with bpd or similar and I suppose it doesn't need to be as bad as people say. Depends on how you react to people being irrational and weird sometimes. My father has BPD.
It came about due to an overbearing mother and an absent father.
You could literally sit and observe as his personality changed in real-time as he watched TV picking up the personality traits of the characters liked in the shows.
He also had bipolar and depression, and was an aggressive alcoholic most of my childhood. Took him breaking my arm at 14 during a mood swing for my mother to pull her head out of her "everything is fine" fantasyland and get him help.
She's a different problem being the middle child in a dysfunctional family that saw her father run off with another woman and her mother institutionalised, with her and her siblings bouncing between cousins until she grew up. When they were making an effort and sticking to it and doing the exercises, I saw a positive change in their behavior.
