> What does it even mean, why can’t you walk in every city?
many US cities post 1945 literally were designed or reconfigured so that pedestrian traffic was impeded:
1) only people with vehicles could realistically move around, with large interstates built through former neighborhoods parks and shaded greenways
2) mass public transit like trams and trollies was privatized (stolen) and the tracks intentionally destroyed
3) with the exception of inconvenient or meandering bus
sidewalks end and 4-6 lane roads cross the landscape
meanwhile in actual cities designed for living, you can walk down your sidewalk to a tram to get to another part of the city, meanwhile each neighborhood's local economy is serviced by stores and businesses owned by the people who live there
if you are a suburb cuck this makes no sense to you
that's what they mean
