a lot of the fucked up quotes are real, but a lot of the talmud is debates between autistic rabbis meticulously nitpicking splitting hairs and debating a legality of some issue, so in it a lot of times you have rabbis playing devil's advocate or just arguing from dumb positions because they hold them and the debate is never actually settled.
like in baba metzia 59b (
https://www.sefaria.org/Bava_Metzia.59b.5?lang=bi ) you have rabbis arguing over an oven and whether or not it's ritually pure or impure under jewish law.
so they explore every angle of the issue including hypothetical scenarios (what if the oven was constructed differently?)
rabbi eliezer insists this oven is pure and brings miraculous signs.
rabbi joshua rejects the miracle and argues halakha is determined by reasoned debate, not supernatural proof.
rabbi eliezer points to a carob tree being uprooted, a stream flowing backwards, and the walls of the house they study in nearly collapsing as supernatural signs for this oven.
so God starts speaking and says "why are you arguing with rabbi eliezer? halakha always follows his view"
then rabbi joshua says "the torah is not in heaven" and asserts it was given to humans to interpret through reasoned debate, not divine intervention.
the other rabbis present all thought this was an amazing argument so they sided with joshua.
so God smiles down on them and says "My children have defeated Me! My children have defeated Me!"
