this is the civil war questline. only did it once siding with the empire, then never again because it's boring af. it amounts to like an extra dungeon and a few boring extra "battles" aka npc spam of the opposite faction for you to kill.

How did you miss the point so badly? You weren't killed on a technicality. The Thalmor intercepted Tullius on his way back to Cyrodiil to hang Ulfric. It forced them to execute everyone then and there otherwise the Thalmor would've taken the Stormcloaks and "accidentally" let them go. The game outright gives you this information.

You're only being executed because the Stormcloak rebellion is a Thalmor honeypot to keep the Empire divided and weakened instead of turning their sight back on the Aldmeri Dominion now that they've recovered from the war. The only two reasons to ever side with the Stormcloaks are:

A) You're RPing as a Thalmor attempting to keep Skyrim from reunifying with the rest of humanity.
B) You're playing the stupidest nigger that ever nogged.

hardy nords are a nuisance on the battlefield so as many of them need to die in a pointless civil war as possible. this essentially robs the empire of a back-up plan in the next war.

Actually I made my dragonborn some gook imperial descendant from the blades. Ancient akaviri architecture is in quite a few areas of skyrim and the overlap of dragons, dark brotherhood and empire made sense.

I once did a character that was heavy armor and perk maxed the armor damage when unarmed, used the ebony mail armor and played like Batman with a two handed axe for when things got too heavy.

The fact that there's only two factions to side with in the main quest is kind of lame. Both sides were fake and gay, the only real good faction that existed couldn't even be joined - the Forsworn.

Actually for the best experience you need to install one of the mods which restores and improves on the civil war questline. I've played a couple of them over the years. They add a lot to the game. It's a real shame that stuff got cut. It makes the game almost a grand strategy game where the tables at various locations showing real current battle lines and you can pick where to strike. And the Imperials can strike back and retake places you previously took. One of them added these epic battles on the roads where a dozen from each faction would slaughter each other, and I could help my chosen side and then loot the battlefield of armor and weapons.

Skyrim is for the nords!

Actually lets compare these factions to the factions in the USA.

I think Ulfric Stormcloak could be the Trump of Skyrim. He's a populist who was almost killed by his opponents. Just like Trump was almost assassinated. Ulfric is also serving the goals and objectives of the evil foreign elves without realizing it, which is almost like Trump serving the jews but I think in his case he is a good goy who knowingly sucks jew dick.

The Imperials are sort of your Democrat deep state. They have the CIA in the form of the blades and they have made political concessions like banning talos worship, which are politically pragmatic on the empire level but unpopular on the regional level among nords who worship Talos. They present themselves outwardly as the friendly and inclusive empire just like Democrats do, but when you look at the actions they take to oppress the white men of Skyrim on behalf of their Thalmor masters. It becomes necessary for the empire to become anti white tyrants to the nords in order to maintain their weak hold on political power as an empire. I think in real life the Demonrats take a lot of glee in destroying the white man of flyover states, so in some ways the fantasy is a lot nicer than real life.
