What if Israel really is our greatest "ally"
In the 20th century it became untenable to maintain overt colonies in brown countries. The British and the French both had to bail on their old holdings in the Middle East, Africa and Asia due to growing armed resistance and social unrest, both abroad and at home.

Now consider that the Middle East is crucial to control for its oil and to secure shipping lanes between Europe and Asia. How do you maintain that control without overt colonization? How do install a Western regime to dominate the Muslim powers with legitimacy?
Well, why not send a couple of million europeanized Jews there and declare that its their rightful clay because the Bible says so.

Now maybe you'll make the argument that Jews are not really European, and that they're untrustworthy and work against Western interests, or that the Middle East isn't geopolitically relevant anymore. And I'll say fair enough. But is it really an outlandish idea that the Western leaders weren't just being completely ZOG-brained retards, and that they actually had a deeper understanding of geopolitical matters than the average /pol/turd?

>BEIRUT (Syria), January 21. Drought and severe cold is disastrously affecting the cattle in Syria, and the Moslem chiefs in Damascus have attributed the wrath of the heavens to the recent introduction of the yo-yo.

(((Israel))) cannot be "our greatest ally" because they are opposed to us from conception. Sorry jew bros, you're Edom, we're Israel. You know how it is, let's just fight like men and get it over with.

Big booba is my greatest ally. Netanyahu can stay if I can clart his cheeky chipmunk wife, otherwise it's the firing squad for them.

Israel itself doesn't have much oil relative to other nations in the Middle East. But our support of Israel (and the meddling we do in other nations on their behalf) breeds significant hostility in countries that would otherwise have little reason to be antagonistic towards us.
It's a self-licking ice cream cone. We "need" the stability of Israel in the ME because the existence of Israel breeds instability.

No. The only reason colonization became untenable was Jews destroying the concept of a nation after WWII. It sure as fuck wasn't because western countries got overpowered by savages with spears.

If it was just about the oil, why did they pick Palastine, the only country with no oil in the middle east?

This assumes that the Muslim world would always be the sleepy backwater with a leisurely attitude towards the West. Which was the case after the fall of the Ottoman empire, but certainly not before. The idea that Muslims are just default friendly towards Christians and Europeans is ahistorical. It was an exception rather than the rule, and was brought about by total European dominance in geopolitics.

>The idea that Muslims are just default friendly towards Christians and Europeans is ahistorical.
Their attitudes towards the West have shifted back and forth over the centuries. And of course much of the historical hostility was a response to Euro/Christian aggression such as the Crusades.
In any event, by the mid-20th century the nations of the Middle East were not hostile to us and were in no position to threaten us. Our support for Israel was unnecessary.
Even if you want to argue that they would become hostile to us in the future, supporting Israel only accelerated and exacerbated that process. And for what gain? Being committed to endless conflicts in that region?
Arabs have a history of being traders that predates Islam. There's no reason we couldn't have done business with them and simply let them live as they please.

think about superpowers and sphere of influences. Europe used to hosts multiple superpowers now it only has one big asshole UK, two dying potential ones France and Germany, one rising Poland and the big questionable one far north Russia. Europe doesn't need yet another competitor epically not if said competitor has complete control over your whole political system and has established a guilt grift that can come up with any excuse for the shit they do. Project 50 years into the future if Israel keeps growing as it does this shit will inevitable be at war with Europe and their tactics will be brutal. You could argue they already are since their actions flood the continent with refugees.
Much as the same reasons why the US does not want China to rise Europe shouldn't want Israel to grow if you purely look from the power dynamic view.

>Euro/Christian aggression such as the Crusades
The Crusades were a defensive war against invading Muslim armies.
>In any event, by the mid-20th century the nations of the Middle East were not hostile to us and were in no position to threaten us.
in 1973 the OPEC countries embargoed much of the West and caused an energy crises that almost tanked the western economy. We were not in a good position, and their power would only grow as our money flowed to their countries in return for oil.
>Even if you want to argue that they would become hostile to us in the future
I most definitely am.
>supporting Israel only accelerated and exacerbated that process
Possibly. Question is, would the outcome have been different if the British, French and Americans just militarily occupied the Middle East?
>And for what gain? Being committed to endless conflicts in that region?
Establishing a military presence and infrastructure that would enable domination and subjugation of the region.
>There's no reason we couldn't have done business with them and simply let them live as they please.
I regurgitate that this sentiment is either wilful stupidity or lack of historical knowledge. The West had knocked the Islamic world down but they were always bound to comeback.

And all this is without mentioning thatt during the Cold War the US and western Europe hade to contend with an aggressive Soviet Union over who would control the Middle East.

All valid points. But my argument isn't really that we should support Israel today, but that from a historical perspective the creation and support of Israel made a lot of sense.
