(1/2) Was depressed for 6+ years, almost tried every type of "help" out there. 4-5 different antidepressants, Transcranial Electrical Stimulation, therapy. None of them helped, or made it worse. In this time, I studied anything that I though would help. Medicine, biochemistry, psychology etc.
I ended up realizing than no one can give you a pill or do something that will get you out of depression. You have to fix yourself.
And long term depression is not something you can take a pill to cure. Depression is a symptom of something else, that something is a bad lifestyle.
Antidepressant are like morphine, expecting morphine to cure your broken foot is dumb. Something broke your foot, you need to realize what caused you to break your foot, don't do that again. And then work on it and take care of it, and eventually the foot will heal because it's cause has been fixed.
For me, I started strength training. This is the best type of exercise to improve your mental health. I stopped porn and reduced social media use. I still jack off, but I try to keep it to at most once a week. I started eating healthy, and here healthy is not becoming vegan or other dumb diet shit. Just stop eating too much junk, eat meat, fat(not vegetable oil and other shit, eat animal fat). It might also be worth trying to go on a diet where you slowly add new foods as some can become depressed from certain eating habits like eating bread. Here you will start with eating something like eggs or just straight stake. No seasonings other than salt. Then every week add a new thing, maybe you can try bread, and if that fucks with you stop. Pretty simple.
Get sun, or at the very least take some vitamin D pills. Make sure you have enough vitamin D. Stop drug use or excessive drinking if you do those. Simply just fix your life, you likely know yourself what you are doing wrong, you just aren't changing it.
And I know it's hard to get any motivation to do these things when you are already depressed
