Except most institutions have worked double-time to declare troons as not being mentally ill, even though they often have whole clusters of other problems; such as BPD, Schizophrenia, Delirium Tremens, Mania, Psychosis, AGP, and other shit. I haven't met a single troon that wasn't taking some kind of anti-psychotic/anti-anxiety medication.
Not one.
No one will commit or adjudicate these freaks as mentally ill (which they are). Suddenly, being mentally ill is no longer a disability to be addressed with compassion and empathy, it becomes a slur and thus is "transphobic". The same people will that stand up for troons will speak out of both sides of their mouth on this topic, using one category when it suits their interest and the other when they feel they're under attack.
Yet, it doesn't change the fact that troons are mentally ill. Nothing wrong with having something up with your brain you can't readily control; one of my friends is straight up schizophrenic but takes his meds and is fairly well adjusted, even though he needs help with complex stuff and has to be monitored when he's about to have an episode.
I wouldn't trust him with a gun but that doesn't mean he isn't a human being (and a pretty chill dude otherwise).
Queer activism has done so much damage to troons and how they're viewed that it will probably take another 30-50 years for us to respond to it in a normal and healthy way. It's too politicized right now and that's not just sad, it's infuriating.
