Don't forget the ones who were injured. When people see headlines like '2 dead, 17 injured' they tend to think 'only 2 dead, well at least that isn't too bad'. But there's a good chance a lot of the survivors will spend the rest of their lives with complex health problems.
Getting shot isn't like in the movies where if you survive the initial hit the hospital can stitch you up and you'll be back to normal in a week. Bullets can really fuck you up even if they don't kill you. One of the Columbine survivors died just a couple of months ago due to complications resulting from the wounds she sustained, having lived the last twenty-five years as a paraplegic with intense pain.
And not only are the kids going to have to deal with permanent pain and disability going forward, their parents are going to have to structure their lives around caring for them from now on.
