It's not fair.

>socialism
I really dont think governments owning minority stakes in private companies constitutes socialism. If anything thats capitalism and based. If the government purchased a stake in every major company, not only would they be incentivised to keep the market stable, they would generate revenue and curb debt better.
Obviously theres some risky elements to that kind of link, because it shapes policy to benefit the stock market, but in theory it's a good idea.

Based. He also basically nationalized US Steel too. I'm not in favor of that for nationalizing's sake, but the alternative was selling it entirely to the Japs.

Well, it does.

Actually it's the literal definition of socialism.

>not only would they be incentivised to keep the market stable, they would generate revenue and curb debt better.
This is an excellent argument on behalf of socialism.

yeah its called a bailout. i dont think intel or lockheed need bailed out.

it honestly feels a lil sussy since grumph shot down CHIPS which was the only thing that even allowed Intel to start building that giant factory in ohio, now its a giant dirt pit.

That was socialism too. But at least that was a necessary evil in an attempt to stop GE from going under.

Trump seems to be doing it for the love of the game (the game in question being socialism)

This is directly a result of the CHIPS act. The Ludrick guy even said as much before he remembered you have to praise Trump like a 5-year old for anything to happen: https://www.aljazeera.com/economy/2025/8/19/us-wants-equity-stake-in-intel-for-cash-grants-given-under-biden

>β€œIt’s not governance, we are just converting what was a grant under Biden into equity for the Trump administration for the American people.” He suggested any stake would be β€œnon-voting,” meaning it would not enable the US government to tell the company how to run its business.

Did...did you even read what you posted? Shame on you for using Townsends as a reaction image on this garbage. The Chip Act and the current US government acquiring 11 billion in Intel stock are two different events. One is literally just a direct subsidy/incentive for domestic investment (copied from Trump policy in first term btw), the other is the government buying a 10% stake in a company.

I think there's an argument for sliding into nationalisation. Socialism is about "ownership of the means of production" which I think really means to be "controlling the means of production". Blackrock and Vanguard own 9% and 8-8.7% of intel respectively. The US government has almost the same stake as nameless faceless international investment firms. This isn't a take over. They don't have control of intel.

Where in the CHIPS Act does it mention the US government acquiring a 10% stake of Intel? It's supposed to be a direct subsidy, just the government handing Intel money for building in America. Not in exchange for acquiring a 10% stake AND building in America.

Townsends had a funny /tv/ meme with the exaggerated made-up 'orange fool' non-controversy thing and that's why I used it. It's funny because it pokes fun at the unjustified outrage.

>The Chip Act and the current US government acquiring 11 billion in Intel stock are two different events.
Technically true, but related. It's a direct cause-and-effect. "The previous administration gave you money and now we want to alter the deal". Ludrick specifically mentioned it.
My personal opinion is companies should be allowed to fail, but we don't live in a society where rich people pay for their mistakes.

In Finland we have companies which are partly of fully owned by goverment...it is ok as long than the state following same rules than rest of shareholders doing but only then....even we have examples than the goverment can override and push other shareholders under truck. Latest example were here Fortum-Uniper-shit where goverment increase its holdings from company by expenses of other shareholders.

Sorry I was rude anon.

>"My personal opinion is companies should be allowed to fail"
I would agree if it wasn't one of the few industries the US is dominating China in. They wouldn't go bankrupt, they'd just move to China and get nationalized by them instead.

>Technically true, but related. It's a direct cause-and-effect. "The previous administration gave you money and now we want to alter the deal".
It's also technically true that the entire push to have companies build production domestically was something Democrats campaigned for the opposite of for years, and said it was impossible when Trump suggested it in the first term. I believe Obama said "you can't just wave a magic wand".

I think there needs to be a clearly defined framework, like not exceeding a certain margin or letting it affect policy.
