Italian immigrants used to be perceived badly and similarly to the brown/skinned asylum seekers of today.
What changed for the Italians such that they became the part of the "in-group" and could it happen to modern legal / illegal immigrants today?

The racial stock became mongrelized enough that italians were now considered 'white'. Northern Italians had germanic stock at least but sicilians are pretty much niggers.
They are trying to do the same with spics
