Actually did this once. It was at a friends house. When I got there like three people were sitting around it in a circle and it was locked for 4 hours. They were all so confused where it came from and who's phone it was, but I had the same coat as someone else and accidentally swapped coats. This was an android though.

not that hard to unlock, here's some easy steps to do it.

-First of all, get a faraday bag off amazon or some shit for 20$
-plug it into a computer
-run a script to unlock Iphones you find off github or yandex or whatever
-???
-profit

for extra opsec, keep it in a faraday bag until you hit a random coffe shop and unlock it from a laptop ideally running some linux kernel with ethernet off.

You should have turned the phone off immediately so they only had last known location. The phone should be in a secure location when dismantled, or passcode screen is bypassed / icloud is unlocked. You can change the mac code.
