Pretty much every academic study conducted by legitimate research organizations (like Rand) has concluded that the ban had little to no effect on gun violence. Mother Jones maintains a list of "mass shootings" that for some reason excludes most actual mass shootings and only includes those that made the headlines, which isn't any kind of legitimate research methodology. The vast majority of firearm death is the result of gang and inner city violence, not reflected in Mother Jones stats. And most of these deaths are guns not affected by the Clinton ban.

Private gun ownership was heavily restricted during Stalin regime between 1920-1950. Led to the death of 10-20 million deaths.

Nazi Germany prohibited jews from owning weapons. 6 million jews died.

China during Mao's regime 1949-1976. Civilian firearm was banned after the communist takeover. 40-60 million deaths.
