Almost none of the generic Adderall or Adderall XR formulations are the original recipe.

Adderall is a combination of four amphetamine salts compromising of a roughly 75 percent dextroamphetamine/25 percent levoamphetamine mixture.

The raw ingredients for the original ratio has been hard to procure for over a decade and drug companies have responded by changing said ratio. The FDA and just about every other medical governing body allows this.

In the US this is called NON-AB rated drugs. Essentially, it means they have been assigned as therapeutically equivalent to their brand named patent drug. This gets stretched to unreasonable degrees in my opinion.

I still can't mass spectrometry information on any of the popular generic Adderall IR medications. I'm considering getting them tested myself. I can tell you, as someone who has been prescribed both throughout the last fifteen years, the modern day generics are NOT the same drug as even the generics of ten years ago.

There's a few brands that I believe are going beyond changing the ratio and are straight up using a research chemical amphetamine. I do not have evidence for this but as a pharmacist and user, I would bet money on it. In the old days Teva and Sandoz made decent generic Adderall but now, nobody does. I am convinced it's a huge scandal and will likely be black balled if I do find something and pursue it.

This is hard to quantify. There is no way to get pure levoamphetamine legitimately, one would have either find a research chemical version or synthesize it themselves. I don't believe it's available anywhere, this lends to your notion that it is not very useful or pleasant.

I wouldn't immediately disregard it though. Dextroamphetamine is known to create an almost "lazy", seemingly disabling hyper fixation in many people. The levoamphetamine may give certain people a more "physical" push. My guess would be this is why Adderall has a different reputation than Dexedrine or Vyvanse, both of which are pure dextroamphetamine. We can safety ignore the pro-drug status of lisdexamfetamine (Vyvanse) for any non clinical discussion.

I don't work in industry so I cannot tell you. I left the clinical side of things awhile ago and moved on to corporation who sells pharmacy technology to hospitals. At least I did, was laid off two months ago and now living as a 37 YO NEET.

You can separate L and D isomers with tartaric acid pretty easily.

I've tried racemic amphetamine, adderall, and dexedrine and the peripheral side effects seem to subside when there's less L-amphetamine. But yeah I see how no physical stimulation can make it unbalanced.
