Midwits have been predicting a 2nd US Civil War since literally the Reconstruction Era and guess what, they've been wrong every time.
It's a particularly ridiculous claim post 1945. Guess what happens if you declare independence from a nation which has already affirmed in its history it WILL return the rebellious states to its union, even if it has to burn them down, AND it now has nukes

In World War 2, the US and UK governments had advanced knowledge of a Japanese plot to bomb Pearl Harbor. That event is what caused America to enter the war. If Vietnam has taught anyone, if we don't have a terrorist attack on US soil, the public will never allow a war to happen. The government allows terrorists to kill people.
