The stock market is an indication of how the wealthiest Americans are doing, it exists as a medium for them to park their obscene wealth in a way that bypasses the disastrous effects of runaway inflation - it is in no way an indication of how well the economy is actually doing.

Somehow, when the economy shut down 5 years ago the stock market was prevented from crashing by printing trillions and dumping it in the span of a day to keep it afloat. This is what caused the runaway inflation we're in right now, turns out doubling your monetary supply to keep the rich above water is bad for everyone else.
