So are people like me just fucked? I was a good kid, I got straight A's in school, I never smoked or drank, and somehow I'm now worse off than all my peers.

You need to get out of your parents’ house and find a social circle or partner.

This will be difficult to impossible without income. A girlfriend especially will be impossible while you’re there. You won’t be fulfilled while you’re lonely.

You don’t need marketable skills for a job, people learn most of what they do on the job. You will need a job (and your own bank account) to make meaningful changes to your life. It doesn’t matter what, even something simple like making coffee or flipping burgers to start. Nothing will change while you’re under your parents thumb because you’re paradoxically too comfortable despite suffering.

You need to wake up and examine the practical realities of your life unclouded by neuroses and excuses. Happiness isn’t out of reach for you, there’s still time. Don’t let yourself still be there at 38 man. I believe you can do it because I was in almost exactly your shoes at 27, and now 5 years later my girlfriend and I are living together and we’re about to buy a car. I’m genuinely happy now but back then I was certain there was no hope and I would end up as another a suicide.

Don’t give up anon and GET OFF this cesspit of a site if you can. It demoralises and distracts more than anything else.
