This is genuinely poor cope. I’ve been both poor, and now financially stable. Let me assure you I’m more happy now then when I had to second guess every single purchase I made. When I had to go into overdraft to buy groceries. When I had to steal toilet paper from public washrooms. Financial independence is the next goal, and I’ll be even happier then knowing I can tell any employer to go fuck themselves. People confuse wealth with materialism, which is brownoid logic. Wealth is freedom, and freedom is happiness.

All you can buy are illusions and often futile attempts.
Not beibg able to afford to at least preserves the idea that maybe there might have been a way in which it could have been better. Riches kill that illusion.

Money allows more relaxation.
Relaxation does not auto trigger happiness.

However, your ability to have happiness is correlated with amount of relaxation time.

If you are always working, you can't relax.
If a happy event happens, but you are not relaxed, you won't be perceptive to the happiness increase.

The thing I don't understand is why people (some / many / most) simply hoard money or buy things like status symbols, and feel okay with doing that knowing others are struggling often through no fault of their own, like kids etc. Maybe I've just not shaken off childish or naive ideas about this kind of thing, but really beyond a certain level I think I would feel uncomfortable internally about spending large amounts of money on things I don't really need or care about when that money could change the life of others. Granted, I'm not in a position to be very generous, which I guess undermines my point to some extent.

Because rich people can still be lonely, have a hard time finding true connection, get rejected by people they respect and care about, experience death and loss, lack of purpose, etc.
Getting surgery and a third world wife doesn't sound appealing to someone who desires a true connection and a partner they can relate to.

When I graduated from college, I started off my career as an investment banking analyst at one of the boutique firms so I was making anywhere from $140k as a first year to like $300k before my analyst stint was over and I was spending it in a low cost of living area. So I had a lot of money but I was miserable because all I did was work all the time. I literally had no life at all. So I quit and ended up jumping to an even more transactional job that was definitely more stressful but afforded me more time and WAY more money so I was a little happier. Still, I was pretty fucking unhappy so I laid out this plan to make one giant payday over the next 3 years that would let me effectively retire at 29. My plan was to quit, just kind of relax for a while, and then eventually get like a sinecure job or do some passion thing for something to do but I ended up spending about a year after I quit doing basically nothing. I thought the rest and relaxation would make me happy but I’ve never been more miserable in my entire life and I literally grew up poor sleeping in a basement without carpet or heat. Aimlessness and boredom does a number on our brains and the notion that you have the means to do whatever you want only makes it worse. I had a real existential crisis and I started to feel like I had made irredeemable mistakes with my life that could never be overcome and that was a special type of mental hell.

Happiness is a false goal. What men truly crave more than anything, and frankly one of the only two things that make life worth living, is purpose. Having a craft, a passion, a pursuit, a goal, a vocation, this is the only thing that gets you up in the morning. The tendency people have when they get rich is to stop, to relax. Their life actually gets worse because whereas before they didn’t get to choose a purpose, they still had one: to make money. Once you have it, you don’t have anything but the money.

It's a balance. Being extremely poor is stressful but after your first million dollars another million dollars just doesn't doo much. You see these billionaires looking for even more money but never being satisfied.

If you want to maximize happiness then the best option is to spread out the wealth just enough that nobody is stressing over money and nobody is considering a third private plane.

By the way, the real problems with getting rich are 1) it takes too long and 2) you have to become a sort of person to do it and then that sort of person has a hard time using their wealth for something worthwhile. This is why guys like Zuckerberg and Musk never cash out and do something actually worthwhile with their lives.

It's simple, having your needs met.

Having access to recreational drugs such as stimulants/THC and also having a diverse set of entertainment like a Plex server with 100tbs of movies and tv shows plus some of your favourite OF/Porn whores. As well, a modded game console with every game ever on it is nice. If you're a sex haver then having a loving wife is also a must. Lastly some nice food and a quiet place to stay. That's it. My attitude is that there are things which are truly worth doing in life and there are things which aren’t. Most people, sadly, will be born into lives where they won’t ever really even get a choice. They’re born into poverty or incapability and their lives will amount basically to work they don’t want to do until they die. A small minority of us will, either by good fortune or good decisions, escape this fate and will be free to do with our lives as we see fit. It would be a disservice to them to not try to give to them in some way by taking advantage of this. We are morally and ethically obligated to figure out what is worth doing with our lives and do it.

Yeah money and material gain is just the prison for the body and mind. True happiness comes from detaching from these things as they are the prison itself. True happiness is found beyond these hallow matters as you understand human connections and love is all that is worth anything.

Where attention goes - Energy flows. The Magic is in the Interest.

You dont need more than you need. Anything above that is worthless. True worth is to be found in human connection and in spiritual ascension.

i have just enough money to buy anything i want (within reason), so going out with friends, traveling, projects, etc are focused on the fun (no budgeting needed).
my friends and i just went to vegas a few months ago, one guy is barely scraping by so i paid his entire way including plane tickets, gambling, meals, etc. i didn't even notice a change in my accounts from doing so.
this trip was less than a month after i bought a house, and i just forked over $20k cash for a new deck on the house because i have a nice quiet backyard against trees with lightning bugs.
it'll take me probably a year to reshore that $20k unless i tighten my belt and live frugally/budgeted. but it's nice to be able to do it. the deck means a bigger incentive to have family/friend gatherings.

Oh it most certainly can. I was a sad little boy before I β€œmade it”
It’s the freedom (and medical care/time)
When I was deep in the rat race I couldn’t find time to take care of myself and drank heavily. I self isolated, not going out or dating to save money.

I’d try to get to the gym or bike/ be healthy but innevitabally id have a rough day and fall back into the slob trap.

When I finally had that first big transfer, and saw all those digits, it was the greatest bliss even every drug I’ve ever tried couldn’t compare to. Even the best drugs you know will fade, but godamn man. Not many people can claim they were literally the happiest person on earth at some point in their life. But I know for a fact I was that day.

I still get the blues, sure. I see all the fucked up shit in the world or think about friends I’ve lost.
When my lizard died, who was there from the beginning, even when I was homeless in my car for a few months, I shut myself in for weeks. Genuine fucking grief.

But with money, you have the time and resources to snap yourself out of a funk. After the second week I decided I needed a change of scenery. I couldn’t be bothered to pack anything. Or even book a flight. I simply drove to the airport, looked at the next flights, swiped my card and got lifted away. Atlanta for some reason, I had never been.
Got there and rented a car, a nice hotel, shopped around, scrolled tinder, and had a wonderful night with a cute black chick. Woke up the next morning cured of grief.

I’m doing something similar right now. I’ve just had the blues for a few days, so am at the gate about to visit my sister and niece and posting on 4chan. Thanks for reading my blog. Pic related

same thing for me. Your brain works differently if you have money.

It;s like in commie times in Bolan old people say they were happier. Why is that? Part of the reason was that if you went to buy something there usually were like 3 - 5 things to chose from and everyone wanted them. Easy life. Now they go to a store and there are a million TVs, million cars, million fridges and people just get confused and decide they will keep the stuff they have now

I have a net worth of over $4 million. Three houses are paid for. The main house has a swimming pool and hot tub all in ground with a nice waterfall. My vacation home is in the mountains next to 12,000 foot ski area. Third home I bought for one of my sons and he is paying me back with 4% interest instead of 7%.

Money certainly makes things easier and relieves a lot of stress. However, if one is materialistic, they will never be internally happy. I still get pissed off. I rage at other drivers on the highway even though I have a new Tesla that automatically drives me to work. And I don’t even need to work anymore. I’m 59 and set. over 2 million in my 401(k) and other retirement accounts.

Made my money in Oil. I’ve been poor. I used to have to go to the cash store and take out payday loans 20 years ago to help pay for family things. When I was first married, I had to sell my Gibson guitar and Ampeg & Peavey amplifiers to make ends meet.

Keep a positive attitude.

Money will buy you material things but it does nothing for your spirit anon.
These are the five senses. Money will buy you things which please one of these, but if I crushed your skull right now the eyes you want to please with big, flashy things would turn into paste. I think it's *technically* true, for example I doubt that Elon Musk is happy. You can tell there's a void in his soul which he tries to fill with money, power, and fame. The same goes for most billionaires, which is why they feel compelled to hoard more and more wealth, long after they've reach the point where they've "made it".
But yeah, most people could be pretty content with maybe $2 million or so

I mean more in that when you are deciding whether or not to spend money on a new toy or whatever think of it in terms of how it can enhance or facilitate meaningful interactions with other human beings.
Going out and buying an expensive car because money is retarded if it's going to cause significant strain. But if you're saying buying a project car because working on cars is a hobby and you'll meet other people on track day and have a good time- suddenly that's maybe a wise decision.
At some point you're going to be laying in a palliative care bed watching your last conscious moments tick away. You're not going to be thinking about how to get your yacht through the pearly gates. You're going to be thinking of all the time you had with other people.
Material acquisitions that contribute to that pool of memories are therefore beyond materialism.

The best argument that I can see is that because rich people aren't worried about basic necessities that can afford to have the time to worry about other more lofty things (satisfaction in life, fulfillment, etc.) The problem is that for this to hold you would have to say that having those kinds of rich people's problems is worse than the poor people problems. I think generally it is not true. There probably some hypothetical rich guy out there that is miserable because people only like and associate him for his money and try to take advantage of him all the time. That could be worse than a poor third worlder who struggles but otherwise has a family, friends, etc. But as a rule of thumb or in general? Nah the poor guy has it worse.

My mother in law side of the family is stacked. 7 figure yearly salaries. They started as war refugees and through the American dream rose to the vice president of fortune 500 company echelon. So they know what poverty is.
So many of them are fucked. The difference is you measure happiness through materialism. Your limiting factor in life is money for the things you want.
Their limiting factor is time. And because of that realization they treat time as a commodity and it ruins all relationships.

That hole can have many causes. Some dude in full legitimate Armani attire can bang his tarted down woman after clubbing all he wants, she'll never give him the love his mother denied him.
And that love being denied him is only a problem for him because he keeps it that way, by indulging in substitution and distractions, one mixed drink and whore at a time.
He could plug that hole by accepting it and forgiving himself, and realising that the maternal love he required as a baby and small boy simply isn't required anymore.
Though really, it could be either parent being inaccessible for the child that fucked him up. His mom's not impressed with a very fast car and a very busty slut. Dad is.
Until one day they can't take it anymore and abandon their son, or vice versa the son goes his own way.
Then there are three options.
He keeps chugging and fucking and driving fast, and lives to the ripe old age where he'll regret everything for how absolutely worthless and hollow it all was.
He stops chugging and fucking and fixes his shit, and learns how to live a fulfilling life, money no object.
Or, he tells me to talk again when I've got two Bugattis, keeps partying like the fool he chooses to be, and dies young, a victim of his excesses and arrogant ignorance.

Happiness is a choice, not a product.

Does it say anywhere that poverty can buy happiness? Cause I don't think it does. But
it is true. A normal man can lead a simple happy life. You don't need a fortune for that.

Existence is shit no matter what you have. I know a lot of rich people and they're as fucked up and miserable as anyone. More so in a lot of cases. They just have money.

Yes, there are millionaires on pol saying that they are socially isolated, hikikomori but rich as fuck, so they don't even feel any advantage of having that money because they generally feel like losers.
