Unless Indians pull their wallets out like they did for Trump's 2024 presidential campaign bribing Trump to spare H1B, it looks like F1-OPT is going to be nearly impossible to maintain.

Trump is capping F1 to 4 years max. This rule change was proposed today. No more automatic OPT extension after graduation. If you get OPT in your 3rd year, it ends automatically 1 year later.

Essentially there is no STEM OPT anymore with this rule change. It would be nearly impossible.

Couple this with HR2315 aiming to end OPT, it doesn't look good. Well actually it looks great for US grads and US tech workers (green card and citizens alike).

You will simply need to file a stateside extension of status with USCIS, instead of the F! status being assumed valid so long as your SEVIS is valid.

Changes nothing. But go ahead wignat, celebrate.

I was on one.

Heres how the world changes:
1. Get a school admit - 4y undergrad - get an F1 visa using that admit letter (I-20 form).
2. Depending on processing timelines, apply for a DoL issued CPT EAD card valid for 1y.
2. [NEW] Before you graduate, apply for an EOS form I-549 to extend F1 status with DoL issued CPT EAD.
3. Maintain lawful status on F1 for the next 1y.
4. If eligible for STEM OPT, repeat #2 & #3.
