Former airforce intelligence here. Airforce is the backbone of even the modern warfare. It has been a backbone since its invention, and unlike a tank, will not lose its role. Being able to perform tasks from far way like nothing else is unpresidented in any kind of war scenario and many tasks are exclusive to manned bombers, fighters, and reconnaissance.
