You are correct on the medical costs of course but wrong about the legal costs. Legal aid isnt going to come anywhere near being able to provide a robust defense against a corrupt police force, even for a juvenile. This is going to end up as a complex case if the CPS do decide to continue to push for prosecution of the young girl and you will be looking at tens of thousands in legal costs to do a proper job agains the corrupt state
Nobody is going to take on the civil side of this pro bono or for a cut of the spoils. The risks of losing against the state in the UK are just too high, especially in Scotland. Even a win doesnt guarantee that the losing side has to pay your legal fees and any compensation is likely to be in the single digit Β£thousands at the maximum in the UK. Nowhere near enough to cover litigation costs. Its why this kind of litigation is so rare in the UK. The system is geared up to make sure you lose even if you win
When it comes to a civil case against the press its also highly unlikely that they will prevail because the press basically repeated the lies of the police. In the eyes of the law most of the reporting was "factual" even though it was complete lies. This will be an even costlier case to bring than the case against the police
In 2007 I sued my local council and school for illegally taking biometric data from my kids. The UK government tried to backdoor a system through school libraries whereby schools would secretly take the fingerprints and iris scans of pupils without parental permission. I had a barister do a lot of work for us for free but we still spent over Β£45K on legal services to bring the case. We forced the schools to destroy all biometric data they had taken but we didnt win a penny in compensations
I donated Β£50 sovs to the campaign earlier and I hope they use it to shine a very bright light on the police and media corruption even though they will likely never win any kind of monetary compensation
