There's a consistent ignorance about the nature of those conflicts. First of all, Chechnya is a Russian district and has been for over 100 years. It is literally part of Russia, its citizens are Russians. In the 90s, during all the chaos, muslim extremists took power there and turned the place into bandit paradise. With slave markets. Muslim extremists struck across border into nearby Dagestan to capture slaves (other muslims) and sold them at the markets. Their political goal was to separate themselves from Russia. They've committed terror attacks like taking schools and hospitals hostage, blew up planes.

In response to that, two anti-terror operations were undertaken and eventually terrorism was defeated, so now instead of slave markets Chechnya now has temples and schools. Chechens themselves assisted in the anti-terror effort, so they're happy nobody is selling their daughters at slave markets.

Some terrorists fled to France and other Chechen Diasporas, demanding slave markets to return to Chechnya. They do not represent Chechens.
