this is exactly the problem. a unique culture is a product of a unique group of people. When you start adding more and more groups and you're left with one option which is to appeal to the greatest common factor. When the base is this rootless and eclectic those factors are painfully mundane "We all like eating burgers and ice cream, right?(and not even that due to lactose intolerance in places where milk is too spicy).
I should say that this doesn't stop people from withdrawing though, one of the most radical forms of escape from the American experience I've witnessed is actually the Amish. It's funny because urbanite husks, sitting in traffic, trial pharmaceuticals coursing through their veins, will often mock the Amish for their strange approach to life yet the lowest Amish worker unironically has more culture than an affluent man in New York. I say this simply because 1 > 0 the urbanite truly has nothing even if he works his way to the top of the skyscraper. He goes out to get a $2000 plate of sushi, not his culture, Japanese. He goes to see an orchestra that was written before we even knew this continent existed. He rents his clothes and his house, even his gold digger wife (who is absolutely planning a divorce) could be considered a rental.
