>45km/h
That funicular route is 850ft (260 metres). At 45km/h, that would be a 20 second journey. They go slow as fuck as attached to each other via a steel cable, the weight of one travelling downwards pulling the other back up. At least that's what's supposed to happen. When the cable snaps, as here, they go faster tho. Much faster, briefly.

Those cable cars are safe, as long as they're properly and regularly maintained.
Right after the accident happened, the municipality president Charles Coins had quickly declared that everything had been fine, and that maintenance had been recently made. Which naturally many think otherwise.

Normalcy bias: Normalcy bias is a cognitive tendency where people assume that things will continue as they always have, underestimating the possibility of sudden change or disaster. Just because trams in Portugal have historically been safe doesn’t guarantee they always will be: complacency can blind us to new risks like aging infrastructure (faked maintenance records), increased shitskins, or decreased safety standards (in practice, due to shitskin inspectors).

Those things apply to our cars and roads to an even greater extent. We have a lot more roads to maintain, and the average person is generally terrible at maintaining their vehicle. You can do everything right and get T-boned by some lady in a Suburban blasting through a red light because she was putting on makeup while driving her kids to school.

America did the right thing. Except for maybe shitholes like San Francisco, we abandoned public transportation and we encouraged freedom. Take the car pill now! This accident wouldn't have happened if everyone used a car instead of this socialist vehicle.

The cobblestones are extremely slippery in places and Lisbon is all hills. Coincidentally, I saw a lot of people walking around on crutches. I wonder whose responsibility it is to decide when the cost of time taken off work and treatment for broken legs outweighs the cost of replacing the cobblestones. Actually could they not build some kind of vehicle with a low grit sandpaper roller that roughs the surface back up? Then they could keep the stones.

That's not a concern. Having some time in your own car which is a bit like a tiny living room (seats are like your couch for example) where only (you) and maybe (you)r family has access to is satisfying.

But communist shitboxes where you have to share your space with stangers is the real dystopia. Even when the train is full of white people, there's no personal space for you. No couch, no fridge, no AC, nothing.

Recent news found out the tram lost its security maintenanc a couple of days back or something.
Now they are trying to hide everything under the rug to avoid backlash. But political consequences will be made since this killed tourists. If only portuguese people died, they wouldn't even bother opening an investigation since our politicians treat the natives as serfs.

Yup, I can confirm that the maintenance of the funicular, or tram, or whatever you call it, was cancelled for being too "pricey." The truth is, they are all thieves and always try to steal money from wherever they can get it. A huge problem in problem sadly.

And this is the reason why school kids should be allowed to drive by the age of six, 16 is way too old:
>Mini-cars due to the size for children.
>Can be programmed so children will never take a detour stopping children to run away from home/school.
>No more Karens who put on their make-up as well as texting while driving.
>They'll learn to take responsibility not with pets but with technology.
>Most importantly, more profit for salesmen and car manufacturers.
