Most people don't care. Normies react to the world around them, they don't prepare for the future. There was a brief moment during covid back in 2020 when "preppers" were vindicated. But that moment has passed, and people are back to thinking anyone who stockpiles food or prepares for a collapse of civilization is just some kind of paranoid schizo.

People around me aren't worried, but I live in the geographic center of the US and thus would be the most difficult spot for ICBMs from Russia or China to hit. I'm not quite that worried, but, I do expect WWIII to happen at some point.

When that will happen is the hard part. Could happen tomorrow, but my best is that we still have a few years. The USA keeps getting weaker and more fucked up. I think the Ruso-Chink alliance waits to go full bore against the west once the US is either obviously weakened, OR when it appears we are actually starting to get strong again, which would again be at our weakest point.

It all hinges on the Russia v. Ukraine war right now. The West has proven that we do not have the manufacturing capacity to keep up with the Russian onslaught, even though it's a grind on both sides. To me, this points to escalation. Zelensky and the west don't want to capitulate anything to the Russians, and thus I think that they want to convince Russia to backdown, which is unlikely, and so the next best thing is to provoke Russia into an escalation, which then gives the west the justification for an escalation.

The problem is that western leaders are more suicidal. Putin wants Russia, he wants to capture the west, he doesn't want to destroy the west. But western leaders don't care if the west is destroyed. They're willing to sacrifice a few European capitals to nuclear holocaust if it means defeating Putin.
