Giving /pol/ an Economics Lesson
Deporting immigrants destroys real wages, want to know how?
Your real wage isn’t your nominal wage, it refers to your purchasing power. Your real wage can increase either by a real nominal wage (pay check increase) where prices remain the same, fall, or at least not rise as much as your paycheck increase % wise, or… if prices fall faster than your paycheck decreases.
When ICE raids a town and deports all the farm workers, uber drivers, and dishwashers, the cost of labor increases. Farmers now have to make costly investments in automation, the surcharge for uber deliver will increase due to a shortage of uber drivers, and restaurants will have less staff available to wash dishes.
Unless you are in one of those industries, you won’t even see a nominal pay rise, you’ll be paid the same but you’ll notice food is more expensive, you’ll notice uber costs more, you’ll see restaurants jack their prices. Your REAL wage measured by purchasing power will have decreased thanks to mass deportations
