For me the problem is having an abutting neighbor, but I understand some of you lifelong urbanites are addicted to being miserable. The Bay Area has its own unique problems, but they have high density housing and public transit. Silicon Valley tech workers and California style taxation are what's making it unaffordable there -- not leaving people alone to have housing options where they won't be forced to share walls with their neighbors.

It’s a green zone anti-sprawl problem. Shift green zones further out around large urban areas/employment centres and reintroduce sprawl friendly policies with surface rail at car nodes to curtail some traffic problems.
