You can't own homes in the US anyway. The government can just take it from you if you don't pay them "rent' every year.

Cause they have inside knowledge and know real estate is a bubble that will burst any day now with unpredictable consequences. They can show off, but withing reason, they wouldn't be millionaires if they could unironically pay 60kk for an asset that will be worth one million in a few months.

when you get rich enough that rent cost is nothing to you, renting becomes more tempting because you can leave at any time to rent anywhere else on earth when you get bored of your current location.

Both. I first got into the BTC world in march 2009. Mined on my laptop. Trade recreationally here and there. And was getting involved with the large BTC mining operation that I eventually backed out of. Could be worth a lot more if I wasn’t living the NEET life

Well 1 million dollars isn't all that much anymore.
Most good homes in NYC (OPs pic) don't even start until 3 or 4 million.
Something tells me this article isn't targeted at 100 millionaires. It's probably targeting the fintech bro or the law clerks or the new doctors.

I prefer the flexibility of renting, I've been chained to a home with bad neighbors before and now I can just fuck off somewhere else virtually immediately. Or if the area becomes boring. Or seasonal rentals are ideal, e.g. beach town in summer then ski hill in winter. Furnished rentals are even better, just a couple plastic moving boxes for the irreplaceable items.
Also leasing up-market properties is a far better experience, landlords love to try to keep me happy to motivate me to re-up. Whereas cheapo slumlords purposefully torture their poverty tenants, because there's always more poor people to slide into that spot. The downsides of leasing are only relevant for poverty people.

Unexpected maintenance is the killer that most buyers do not anticipate. Especially newer builds, anything built from 2005 and later may as well be torn down now because of garbage workmanship and materials.

unironically if you got lot of money renting can make sense. you only need a house for a family. but if you can rent a giant appartment, even that can work.
Anonymous (ID: 7kqgHuvJ) Austria No.514808265
millionaires renting makes sense because they have more travel opportunities, more freedom, and more reason to relocate for professional or financial reasons.
normies renting doesnt make sense because they are essentially bleeding what little excess they have into the profit margins of another. their losses overall can be very likely lower if they take a loan and buy, it heavily depends.

A lot of these guys are probably single, so no need for a house. Renting makes a lot of sense. You can leave any time, and move to another city or country. Didn't a lot of actors and rock stars just rent hotel rooms for years - like that guy who was the autistic character in "Rain Man" and Mick Jagger.

It's actually a really "nice trick" used by the wealthy. It's called "octopusing" and basically it's where you rent homes from other billionaires in a tax band to both gentrify and deny access to affordable housing, simultaneously bypassing property taxes while a major trust fund expands outwards to obtain more tenable assets. Immediately skyrocketing their credit score.
