Its illegal in most scenarios to simply even touch an intruder let alone deploy anything which can be considered a weapon, which by law is any object regardless of intended use. If you are being beaten to death in your own bed by fists and you hit them with a lamp and they die that is at minimum assault with a deadly weapon and 2nd degree murder. The legal response requires you to respond with the same force, ie. Punch back in this made up scenario or be charged.

It is not Canada. It is the whole western world (USA included despite civilians having guns). This is how authoritarianism is created. To be fair, if someone is so destitute that they are forced to invade people's homes for survival, they probably deserve whatever they can take. If you're rich enough to own a home, I think you can also probably easily afford a new OLED TV. Put it this way -- $2000 to you as a home owner is probably one week of your entire household income, but to the intruder (likely a victim of systemic oppression), that $2000 could probably sustain them for TWO MONTHS. You shouldn't try to hurt these people, but instead offer them an olive branch.
