I never really got the hype around hollow knight. I own it and played it, I enjoy metroidvanias and I've heard this is the best one, but I didn't really get into it. The art style is kind of cringe.

I don't think I've even finished hollow knight actually, I beat two or three bosses then I couldn't figure out where to go and got bored.

For some fucking reason Metroid itself figured out you should probably have a compass telling you where to go when the map is fucking huge so even if the path to get there is convoluted you can still manage but indies just expect you to start randomly hitting walls because the second half of the game is behind a secret door and nobody told you where it was.

Maybe I'll try again real quick, I bought it after all

Hollow Knight is pretty boring in the beginning that is probably a big reason why you dropped it. It feels better to play once you unlock the air dash. Overall the game is fine, but it does not live up to the hype.
