a lot of times the inheritance is a family property like in my families case a cabin in the woods. so theoretically I would have to sell it when they pass, to pay off the tax, only I dont want to sell it

I was wondering about that, whether or not the estimated market value of an inherited item would be taxed.
I'd be very pissed off if after inheriting something I also got a bill for it that I might not be able to pay.
