Is it necessary or inevitable that elder generations are removed from the population as a whole, the younger generations left behind must justify their continued existence? Such as happened in the 1980's onward with the very large Baby Boom Gen. and the WWII & Depression era Greatest Gen.

Similarly, are pandemics and plagues used as part of generational justification?

If you can provide them with meaningful work and decent healthcare you can keep them.

Depends. Love has no logic. Deep down, past a certain layer of rationality, you realise that a family is supposed to be giving and self sacrificing. Especially when the need for it calls. Typically, the older and wiser people choose to die, knowing they cannot be saved and their best years are behind them. But if they have a little miracle by their side. They might not need to.

Sometimes. There are vast swathes of people anon who live alone. When a sweeping pandemic comes, they have nothing left to fight for, and they just let the tide take them away. Others have something they're waiting for, they hold on just for that moment. Then they're gone.

Thank you for the thoughtful reply. The post was a very late reply to an anon on /pol/ that said something like in the 1980's baby boomers built masses of nursing homes worldwide to outsource the care of the parental generations.

Before the revolution (industrial), elders had lots of value because they were the primary landowners and information stores like we use computers and now AI, to store or gather information. Post industrialization, adult's societal contributional value stems mainly from their ableness and employability. Elderly or disabled people are very lacking in ableness and employability, and thus are not held in the esteem that they were in previous eras, historically.
