most of the friends I had in HS were fake as fuck. with the advantage of hindsight, I know that they only hung around because they tried to get something out of it, and our shared interests were very minimal.

My kid does
He plays with his friends when he is able, but its the parents that are the gatekeepers there, not any other circumstance
Lots of the time his friends parents just WILL NOT allow them to play together

Most adults don't really have the kind of friends you spend time with regularly.
Maybe you have old friends you catch up with a few times a year, but otherwise all free time is spent with your significant other and family.
