Shifting the responsibility onto the individual when this happens by saying "oh you were just financially irresponsible" is excuse making for the system being set up in such a predatory way, where the banks are constantly printing money to make sure "investors" stay whole at the expense of anyone who has cash

My high school had Finance as an elective. Most students don't even give a shit about long division, much less how finances work. Out of a school of about 1600, there was only twelve students in my class and only one section of it. Most students simply aren't interested.

My mom put everything ($370k) into an annuity and got fucked by inflation.
Now my dad's dementia is so bad that he has to be put in a nursing home.
Medicare won't pay because it sees the annuity, and there is a five year look back that she never gave a shit about, because she wanted to live in boomer la-la land for as long as possible.
So she's going to get fucked by the early withdrawal Jew, the tax Jew, and the nursing home Jew in addition to the inflation Jew. A very kosher skullfuck gangbang.

I did read it, and did invest, but a lot of my pics sucked. This was due to a combination of my own noobitude and (((systemic issues))) which I didn't understand at the time. Eventually got out of stocks entirely. During the ~12 years I had them (1998-2010?) They did a lot of whipsawing up and down without any real progress, especially when inflation is considered.
