You cannot compare the usefulness of dogs vs cats. Its like saying a mallet is more useful then pliers.
The mallet is useless when trying to do the pliers job and vice versa. Dogs are nowhere near as good as cats at keeping disease vectors and grain thieves away. Cats arent near as good as dogs if you need to keep coyotes away from the chicken coop.

Cats for instance are great animals to have around outside. They're hunters, they go do their own thing, it's great. I love outdoor cats. One of the best pets I ever had was a 100% outdoor cat that I had for 15 years. He brought me his kills, he greeted me when I came home, I pet him when I was outside, it was great.
