Sure, that's part of it. They run a lot of US machinery and equipment, so sanctions make maintenance and upgrades difficult or impossible.

But they also neglected their domestic agriculture in favor of imports when the oil money was riding high and they did not US fracking seriously. Their reality is that the US was their biggest customer and their closest big customer -- which matters for transport costs.

While plenty of Asian countries certainly would and do buy Venezuelan oil, often times it is still cheaper for them to rely on Russian, Central Asian, or Middle Eastern supplies because of proximity.

So a person living on bread needs something like 750 grams of wheat a day, not healthy but not the point.
Times 30 million its 22.000 tons of wheat a day

If Venezuela exports oil, it can fund 100% food imports just with a price of oil at 6.6 dollars, if it exports 1 million barrels.
