I said it a few weeks back I think.Trump's plan seems to be to skirt an official war declaration by starting an SMO in Venezuela under the umbrella of the emergency powers he took when declaring the crisis at the US borders.
The goal is probably to create a prolonged conflict in South America. I think Trump wants to use the prolonged conflict in order to centralize more power under him and eventually make a move to delay the 2028 elections. He might even try to use it to interfere with the midterms in 2026, i.e. enforcing stricter voting measures to combat alleged "interference by Venezuela"
Then there's the whole idea that a prolonged SMO in Venezuela would give Trump a convenient place to eject US-borne dissenters from the country. He can't deport US citizens that speak or act out against him, but he can start rounding people up for trumped up charges and offer them the option between prison or serving in the Venezuelan meatgrinder for a tour or two. Of course, since the SMO isn't designed to be won, at least immediately, being sent to serve there will be basically a death sentence for the average joe sent there, doubly so the "dissenters" that will always be picked for the worst combat missions.
