Since anything simulating a virtual reality would would work by projecting flashes of light, and the entirety of what we perceive as humans is based on projection of light on to surfaces, then yes in a very real sense we are in a holographic virtual reality that is no different than slipping a headset on, which is in itself nothing except the beaming of light arranged into certain patterns to create an illusion, much like the way our brain works.

We are living in a simulation. The simulation was started a few thousand years ago and the creator revealed himself 2000 years ago. Purpose of the simulation is to produce true souls but the only way to do it is to give people free will.
