Recent US bombing of Iran & seismic data
There was a real US airstrike on Iran (Operation Midnight Hammer) in
June 2025 targeting nuclear facilities, involving B-2 bombers and cruise
missiles (Reuters, AP News).
Despite the heavy ordnance (GBU-57 bunker-buster bombs), seismic
data did not show unmistakable shallow explosion signatures.
Instead, only a few magnitude ~2.5 events at 10 km depth were
registered—consistent with natural tectonic quakes, not surface or
near-surface detonations. Seismologists consider depths of ~10 km
too deep for bombs, which would produce very shallow focal depths
(tens to hundreds of meters) and distinct waveform signatures
(mattske.com).
Iranian seismologists reported over 1,500 “explosion-induced
earthquakes” during those strikes—mostly very small, around
magnitude 2, all consistent with military strike impacts, not covert
nuclear explosions (Iran Front Page).
So even a confirmed bombing didn’t mimic a typical seismic event like a
magnitude 4.3 quake at 0 km depth. That sort of event more cleanly
aligns with a natural tremor or data ambiguity.
