I recall this plan surfaced during the Obama administration.
Issue a platinum coin worth one trillion dollars, mint dozens of them.
Deposit them in the bank.
Voilà, the debt disappears!
What would happen if Trump were crazy enough to actually do this?

Unless a trillion dollars of platinum were in each one, it would be no different from printing paper money.
But to get that platinum they would have to buy it, with money, which they don't have unless they print more of it.
